Donatella Cinelli Colombini - Rosso di Montalcino 2022

Not all Rosso di Montalcinos are created equal.  Sounds obvious but it is especially true when it pertains to the Donatella.  This wine is aged in oak for 1 year, while there is no oak aging requirement for Rossos.  Also, the grapes that comprise the Rosso are sourced from Brunello vineyards which speaks to the quality of this wine.  The end result is a "baby Brunello" that is a great value for a relatively affordable wine.  Since the vintage is 2022, it is young and got signficantly better during the course of the evening.

"Donatella Cinelli Colombini Rosso di Montalcino is a very intense and brilliant ruby red. The aromas are fine and well expressed, recalling ripe small red berries, spices and dark flowers such as violets. Full, harmonious, pleasant, the tannins are silky and well balanced by the richness in fruit. The persistence is pleasant and lengthy."
